More Joy In The New Year!

Happy New Year! 2018! Wow!

I urge you to add a great new habit (If you already do this, well, that’s wonderful!) to whatever you’re doing in this new year.

Today I’ve been listening to a lot of music and I want to share one of my tips so you can experience more joy this year. Ready?

Listen To More Music MORE OFTEN that reflects the uplifting words we find in the Bible. Don’t miss out on the benefits of this habit!

What I’ve noticed during this time of revival in my life is that I listen to some songs less often because I’m filling my life with more of the great (and sometimes awesome!) faith music I’ve been discovering at the Fire & Glory Outpouring, church services, christian radio, Youtube and elsewhere.

If you’re like most people you’ve listened to a lot of secular music and some songs stick with you over the course of your life more than others. One of my favorites is “Girlfriend Is Better” by Talking Heads. I still like the bands I like such as Talking Heads, The Beatles, R.E.M., The Cars, The Who, Marvin Gaye, The Pretenders and lots more.

BUT, I see a greater depth to christian music these days than I’ve ever seen before and I feel encouraged and uplifted more often when I listen to these contemporary artists. I never expected to find Lauren Daigle’s great song about dry bones!

In addition to Lauren I’ve recently I’ve found myself listening about 80% of the time to christian artists like Crowder, Plumb, Kristene DiMarco, REND Collective, NEEDTOBREATHE, Steffany Gretzinger, Kari Jobe, Micah Tyler, Jeremy Riddle, Mandisa, Toby Mac, Big Daddy Weave, WorshipMob, Switchfoot, Andrew Hopkins and others.

My list also includes numerous artists through Bethel Music and Hillsong (some of whom were mentioned above). Bethel Music has some wonderful instrumentals as well and sooo much music. Hillsong? I’ve heard people say something like “Hillsong was Bethel before Bethel was Bethel.” What about Andrew Hopkins? Andrew Hopkins is at Summit Music, which is the label connected to Summit Church in San Marcos, California. He also leads worship regularly at The Fire & Glory Outpouring so it’s possible that I’ve heard Andrew Hopkins more than anyone in the last couple years.

We now have our TV set up so that we can watch Youtube on it and that is definitely a blessing. As I write this the lyric video for Point To You by We Are Messengers played as well as All My Hope by Crowder featuring Tauren Wells and Worship Mob’s cover of So Will I (100 Billion X). What a great change to our viewing habits!

You can do fun stuff like find songs of adoration. Worship Mob is doing that below. After So Will I are two more songs of the day. Because this post has been difficult to get done I’m ending it here.

Happy New Year! God Bless You!

Start The Day In A Beautiful Way

Today started as many days do. I felt a nudge from God about not one, but two songs. Good Morning Starshine from Oliver, the 1963 Broadway show [the year I was born] and Bulletproof by Citizen Way. [Also, I tried out for a San Diego production of Oliver in the 1970s when I was in at St. John’s in Encinitas, California.]

When I’m feeling a song from a Broadway play highlighted I might start wondering if it’s just between God and me. This morning was a little more unusual as I shared Bulletproof with the owner of The Blue Mug coffee shop in Escondido. Not long after that a two-year old came in with his mom, who I believe was the owner’s niece. His name? Oliver.

While I don’t think this is some monumental message from the Lord, I do believe he’s gently encouraging me by reminding me that He’s there, He loves me and cares about even little things in my life. The Lord knows about my love of music and touches my heart in many ways, but music is a big one right now.

After I got home I turned on the TV to listen to some music on Youtube and the first two songs listed there were Good Morning, Starshine & Bulletproof. I should say that I don’t make a habit of listening to just those songs. I’ve been compiling a list of 120 songs or so that I hope to include in my upcoming book. I absolutely love that we’ve got our television hooked up so we can stream Youtube which means not just music videos, but also The Fire & Glory Outpouring, other preachers like Shawn Bolz, Ivan Roman and Darren Stott (to name just a few), Ted Talks, Stephen Colbert, etc…

What I’m getting at here is that it wasn’t inevitable for those two songs to be listed first on my screen. Interesting…

Today’s post’s title was inspired by the seventh song that played automatically after the first two. Here’s the list of 15 songs that played to start my day today:

1) Good Morning Starshine from Oliver
2) Bulletproof by Citizen way
3) The Morning Song by Steffany Gretzinger
4) Tell Your Heart To Beat Again by Danny Gokey
5) The Comeback by Danny Gokey
6) So Will I (100 Billion X) by WorshipMob
7) What A Beautiful Name by Hillsong Worship

Many of us can find a way to squeeze the first seven songs into our day. It’s a great set of music. Today is Saturday so I pressed on (and “pressed in”) to include a total of 15 songs to start my day. Here are the other eight songs:

8) Guilty by Newsboys
9) Unfinished by Mandisa
10) We Believe by Newsboys
11) Cecie’s Lullabye by Stephanie Gretzinger
12) Old Church Choir by Zach Williams
13) That’s How You Change The World by Newsboys
14) Run Devil Run by Crowder
15) Overcomer by Mandisa

Give a listen to the song (below) that you might have thought I missed.

Merry Christmas!

Word Of Knowledge – Encouragement

Less than two years ago I don’t think I was aware of the phrase “word of knowledge”. This post is a way to make readers aware of the phenomenon and see me receiving on video. You’ll see me in my bright green “Kauai” Red Dirt brand shirt. I believe I have received at least 20-30 “words” in the last twenty months.

This is my simple explanation of what I believe it means. A word of knowledge or simply “a word” is when a person is so able to receive information from the Lord because of their level of intimacy with Holy Spirit at a given moment in time that God gives them information to share with someone else about that person. Shawn Bolz is known for being really experienced at this and usually really accurate. There are definitely lots of others who have lots and lots of experience.

You may ask, “What’s a word of knowledge for?” and one answer that I give is this: encouragement! We have a friend living with us right now who has a whole network of people he can ask to pray for him and many will give him a word of knowledge as encouragement that he is moving in the right direction. He received confirmation that God wanted him to move to the San Diego area last year.

Last year I gave a word to a woman on Facebook in a group where we practice giving words of knowledge to each other. When you read that post you’ll see that I received a word from two people I had never met about how accurate my word was for the woman! It was AMAZING and very encouraging to me. You can see from the exchange that at least one woman said that God interrupted her while she was giving someone a word so she could find me online and give me encouragement. As I said, we had never met AND the two people are even from a different part of the world!

Even as I looked back at the post I was encouraged by the very end of it because I love to sing and she told me to:

🙂 Sing brother; sing ♪ ♫ …

Recently I received a word through a friend of our roommate friend which told me that the Lord loves to hear me sing. Very encouraging!

Watch this snippet of Ivan Roman at the Fire & Glory Outpouring giving me words of knowledge on November 1 this year, the day after the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. He starts with me at 1:59:15. If you prefer you can start around 1:57:00 and see what one of the interns received from Ivan. Or, you can catch some of Ivan’s preaching before he moves into words of knowledge around 1:30:55.

Please make a note of these times or you will find yourself looking at a video that’s over 2 hours long. That’s fine if that’s what you want. I encourage you to make time to watch the whole video sometime soon.

God bless you!

O’ Lord

Here’s the song of the day with lyrics! Happy Sunday!

O’ Lord by Lauren Daigle

Though times it seems
Like I’m coming undone
This walk can often feel lonely
No matter what until this race is won
I will stand my ground where hope can be found
I will stand my ground where hope can be found

Oh, O’Lord O’Lord I know You hear my cry
Your love is lifting me above all the lies
No matter what I face this I know in time
You’ll take all that is wrong and make it right
You’ll take all that is wrong and make it right

Your strength is found
At the end of my road
Your grace it reaches to the hurting
Still through the tears and the questioning why
I will stand my ground where hope can be found
I will stand my ground where hope can be found

Oh, O’Lord O’Lord I know You hear my cry
Your love is lifting me above all the lies
No matter what I face This I know in time
You’ll take all that is wrong and make it right
You’ll take all that is wrong and make it right

(Right, so right)
Make it right
(Right, so right)
Make it right, right

I will stand my ground
I will stand my ground
I will stand my ground where hope can be found
I will stand my ground where hope can be found

Oh! O’Lord O’Lord I know You hear my cry
Your love is lifting me above all the lies
No matter what I face this I know in time
You’ll take all that is wrong and make it right (take all the wrong)
You’ll take all that is wrong and make it right

(Right, so right)
Make it right
(Right, so right)
Make it right, right

Smiling Sheep

Last night was the second night in a row of Bobby Conner preaching at the Fire & Glory Outpouring and night 493 of the revival (and session 201 for me!). Bobby shared more of his personal testimony of God keeping him alive. (I’m pretty sure he’ll be back Sunday night the 26th, but check with Fire & Glory.)

We were invited to come up front and worship and I often see things “in the Spirit” when I worship now. Last night was no exception. One of the things I saw was a smiling sheep which was a representation of me. I am reminded of Psalm 121:8 (NASB) which goes like this:

The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in
From this time forth and forever.

Jesus is the good shepherd and we are the sheep of his hand. The verse above seems written in the same vein, with Jesus being the shepherd and you (and me) being the sheep.

John 10:11

11 “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.

Psalm 95:7-8

7 For He is our God,
And we are the people of His [a]pasture and the sheep of His hand.
Today, [b]if you would hear His voice,
8 Do not harden your hearts, as at [c]Meribah,
As in the day of [d]Massah in the wilderness,

[ All passages are from the New American Standard Bible (NASB) ]

While reading the quotes above I noticed Psalm 95:8 and included it because I think it’s a great gem of a reminder. To me, this reminder is extremely important.

Essentially: If you would [want to] hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.

The song of the day is [are you ready for this!?]…ta dah!…
Peter Frampton’s “Baby I Love Your Way”!

As always…

Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:4 (NASB)

See Jack Preach

If you’re like me you like to see different preachers throughout the year. We love Mike McClenahan at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church and Mark McElwee at Heart of God Church in Rancho Bernardo and others in our local area, but the Fire & Glory Outpouring has let us see probably 30 other preachers from around the world in the last year and a half.

Tonight we’ll see Charlie Robinson from Canada to close out that revival’s “I Got The Joy” conference.

This morning we decided to do something different and see Jack Hayford at Grace San Marcos. We even saw a friend from Fire & Glory who, when she saw us, said something like, “You guys are everywhere!”

My wife and I do get around and that led us to the 10 am service this morning as I really wanted to see Dr. Hayford preach because I had never had the privilege before today. We were greeted as soon as we came through the door by Brian Bauer and others. Brian is Jack Hayford’s grandson and the pastor at Grace here in San Marcos. You can read more about Brian and his wife, Melissa, at the Grace link above.

Personally, I urge you to see more than just the preacher at your local church. Even if you can’t attend you can watch a lot of preaching and worship on Youtube.

There’s a long list of wonderful speakers that I could share, but here’s a few to get you started:

Jerame & Miranda Nelson (Elisha Revolution/Fire & Glory)

Shawn Bolz

Darren Stott

Sam Robinson

Georgian & Winnie (Coco) Banov

Mahesh & Bonnie Chavda

Chad Dedmon

Tony Kim

Kris Kildosher

Patricia King

David & Stephanie Herzog

I hope you’ll check out each one of them on Youtube!

By the way, we loved Jack’s preaching this morning along with the worship.

Here’s the song of the day which I searched out early this morning and finally found on this list from Air1.

What’s Going On

Today I met with a buddy I’ve known for years to tell him I’ve made a big decision that I’ll talk about in a later post. I highly recommend V’s Coffee Shop at the Bernardo Winery in Rancho Bernardo.

Right now my wife, Marianne, and our friend, Javier, are trying to get Youtube up on our TV and it looks like they’ve succeeded! We’re studying prophecy with some friends tonight and now we’ll have real “music television” for some worship time.

Earlier I was starting to memorize Psalm 8.

Before that I met with a coffee shop buddy who’s an atheist at the Blue Mug in Escondido and I shared a little about what I’ve been learning. He’s a very nice guy. He even helped deliver and move a couch into our house (when I wasn’t even home to help!) that another coffee buddy and his mom gave us before that buddy moved to Virginia Beach.

Very early this morning when I woke up from an interesting dream I sensed the song of the day in just a few notes. I “pressed in” and soon I had a little more and then a little bit more than that. That start to my day reminded me of 1 Kings 18:44 when Elijah saw the tiny cloud and he told Ahab to get off the mountain before the rains came.

Here’s “Run Devil Run” by Crowder:
